In May 2021, LAB Chairman Robert Louie, leadership from signatory First Nations of the Framework Agreement, and Andrew Beynon, Director Land Governance, First Nations Land Management Resource Centre, presented evidence to the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs on the need for a commitment to tackle the issue of the enforcement of First Nations laws.
In June 2021, the Report of the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs, Collaborative Approaches to Enforcement of Laws in Indigenous Communities, was finalized. Within it are ten recommendations, some of which were proposed by the LAB, that would improve self-government functionality immediately by working to fix challenges in the enforcement of First Nation laws.
