September 29th, 2017 saw the exciting ratification of Miawpukek First Nation’s Land Code.  A first for the Atlantic region, and in the province of Newfoundland, this important vote signals that Miawpukek Mi’kamawey Mawi’omi members are ready to exercise their inherent rights and jurisdiction over their lands and resources.  Miawpukek will blaze new trails in self-governance towards a more sustainable future for their 3031 members, and over 1660 hectares of land.  Congratulations Miawpukek on becoming the 77th Framework Agreement Signatory Nation to rid their lands of 25% of the Indian Act!
