On June 10th and 11th, the Chawathil First Nation became the 60th Operational signatory community under the Framework Agreement, after voting to ratify its land code. It was a historic day for the community as Chawathil First Nation members voted with an overwhelming majority that they wished to resume their jurisdiction over their lands and resources, placing major decisions for their future solidly back into their own hands.
Just a few weeks later, during the final week of June, the communities of Cheam First Nation and Scowlitz First Nation also voted with clear majorities that they too wished to resume jurisdiction over their lands and resources, making them the 61st and 62nd Operational signatory communities under the Framework Agreement.
Congratulations to the members of each community as they resume governance over their lands and resources!
