2023 National Conference on the Enforcement of First Nations Laws

June 6 – 8, 2023.  Hosted by the Lands Advisory Board (LAB) and First Nations Land Management Resource Centre (RC)

The conference focused on “Closing the gap on the enforcement of First Nation laws in Canada,” with experts from across the country sharing their views on rebuilding First Nation justice systems and working with other governments to enforce First Nation laws, policing, prosecution, and adjudication.  It was attended by First Nation, federal, and provincial decision-makers, as well as organizations, businesses and service suppliers committed to supporting First Nation law enforcement needs.

The conference:

  • Provided a forum for networking and negotiations between First Nations, provinces, and Canada on enforcement
  • Highlighted the successes of enforcement pilot projects and other initiatives
  • Provided opportunities to meet with service providers and suppliers to support and improve enforcement capacity
