On February 17th, 2018, the Chippewas of Rama First Nation became the 79th Framework Agreement signatory in Canada to ratify a community Land Code! 91% of participating voting members voted Yes! to approve the Land Code.
Chippewas of Rama reserve lands encompass an area of 1045 hectares, and the community has 1910 members. This vote transfers the governance authority over the reserve lands and resources to the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. In their own words, the community vision is their “pride in Ojibwe traditions and restoring traditional ecological knowledge.” Congratulations to Chippewas of Rama on becoming the 15th operational First Nation in the province of Ontario.
