Salary Range: $23.91-$30.29 per hour

Work Term:     Full-Time 1-year Term (possibility of extension)

Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate Fire Smart Representative to join our team! This role focuses on wildfire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation through public education, property assessments, and community support. The Fire Smart Representative will play a critical role in helping residents and neighborhoods proactively reduce wildfire risks and protect their communities. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual committed to community safety, environmental stewardship, and proactive disaster mitigation. Key Responsibilities:

 

Education and Community Engagement

  • Deliver Fire smart educational presentations to community members, schools, and organizations.
  • Organize and participate in events such as Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, emergency preparedness fairs, community meals, community presentations, and local community events.
  • Promote and implement the Fire smart Community Neighborhood Recognition Program to empower neighborhoods to take action.
  • Provide education and resources to the public in one-on-one and group settings, ensuring a broad understanding of Fire smart principles and activities.

Assessments and Planning

  • Conduct Fire smart Home Ignition Zone Assessments, Critical Infrastructure Assessments, and Neighborhood Wildfire Hazard Assessments to identify and reduce risks.
  • Provide assessments and guidance to support participants in the Community Resiliency Investment (CRI) program private land rebate initiative and the ISC-FNESS On-Reserve Fire smart program.
  • Collaborate with community members to implement Fire smart activities on private and communal lands.

 Training and Professional Development

  • Complete required Fire smart training and certifications, including Fire smart 101 and Wildfire Risk Reduction (WRR) courses.
  • Stay up to date on best practices in wildfire risk mitigation and emergency preparedness.

  • Knowledge of appropriate wildfire mitigation measures for individuals and neighborhoods.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Fire smart and wildfire mitigation work.
  • Completion of cultural sensitivity training.
  • Adequate physical fitness to perform manual outdoor work.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Completion of Fire smart 101 and Wildfire Risk Reduction (WRR)
  • Local Fire smart Representative qualification or willingness to attain.

Working Conditions

  • Shared office environment and community fieldwork.
  • Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for meetings, events, and emergency response.
  • Regular interaction with community members, leadership, and external organizations.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with mitigation measures to improve community resilience.
  • Occasional travel between the participating First Nations communities.
